If you are searching for the perfect space to spend a day immersed in self-care, soothing ambience and high-quality treatments, Calistoga is the place to go. Quite like a spa-goers’ Disneyland, Calistoga is peppered with day spas specifically designed to provide profound restoration and relaxation in just one day or even one afternoon. Indian Springs and Dr. Wilkinson’s are the most famous (see Calistoga's landmark hot springs resorts), but we’ve rounded up a few other options for you to consider for your getaway.
Euro Spa & Inn
Euro Spa & Inn, located in downtown Calistoga but concealed by shady trees on a neighborhood side street, is an excellent choice for visitors not seeking an overnight stay. Similar to the health-centered, traditional day-spa approach in Europe, Euro Spa offers an intimate environment and calming ambience to facilitate deep relaxation in just a day’s time. In addition to popular treatments such as massages of various lengths, mud wraps, facials and post-sauna massage, it features special packages and couples’ deals. What sets Euro Spa apart, however, are the health and wellness programs and treatments offered in conjunction with, or separate from, the spa menu, providing day-goers a healing, tailored experience that will provide lasting results.
Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa and Resort
Tucked away in downtown Calistoga, Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa and Resort is a stellar choice for a day visit. The soothing, ethereal ambience of this lovely space really lives up to its name. The mud baths, mineral soaks and facials are all laced with soothing herbal blends, but the big hit here is the couples mud-bath special. With the purchase of a day-spa treatment, guests are given day use of the on-site hot spring pools and Jacuzzis. Alternatively, access to just these steamy, healing baths is also available to day-use visitors for just $59; unlike other facilities, however, this pool pass also includes a 25-minute upper body massage.
Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort
With a full spa menu, mineral baths and a nourishing atmosphere, Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort on Washington Street is a pleasant space to pop in and spend the day. The spa’s changing rooms are small, no-fuss and spotless; there’s cucumber water to enjoy while waiting for treatments. Its excellent estheticians, massage therapists and mud-bath technicians offer deliciously relaxing services, while the friendly front desk staff directs the spa experience from start to finish. A popular treatment here is the mud bath, and the mud-bath room – unlike it sounds – is clean and inviting. A pleasant “spa” aroma scents the area, which is appealing to guests due to the mud’s natural sulfuric smell. Massages range from 25 minutes to 80 minutes in length, while natural healing modalities such as Reiki are available. Non-mud-bath-goers can enjoy treatments such as facials and aromatherapy.
Calistoga Spa Hot Springs
Located downtown on Lincoln Avenue, Calistoga Spa Hot Springs is a blissful experience and one of the town’s best getaways. Guests may choose to arrive early in the morning, by 8 a.m., and wait in line for a day-use pass. A one-day pool pass is $25 and provides access to the spa’s three relaxing mineral pools, each with its own water temperature. Day-use passes are sold on a first-come, first-served basis; however, the purchase of any spa treatment automatically includes complimentary use of the pool area for the entire day. This area is open to guests from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and at night the lighted fire pit creates a special, deeply soothing ambience.
Indoors, the spa itself is no-nonsense, without the over-abundance of trickling fountains and fancy décor found at some others (there’s more of a European bathhouse energy here). It provides lockers and showers, as well as changing rooms for day users; cucumber water and towels are available for the taking. The staff is personable, the estheticians and massage therapists are exceptional, and guests are permitted to bring food and beverages into the mineral pool area, which is not common. The most popular treatments are the mud baths and massages, which can also be purchased in package form. For those seeking a simple, affordable day-spa experience, it’s a really good deal just to book a half-hour Swedish massage for $57 and then have access to the mineral dipping pools all day long.
Mount View Hotel & Spa
Also on Lincoln Avenue, Mount View Hotel & Spa offers a comprehensive menu of day-spa packages. In addition to the typical spa treatments, Mount View also offers a wonderful Ride, Refresh + Renew package where guests enjoy a bike ride, wine tasting and spa treatment, all orchestrated by Mount View and Calistoga Bikeshop. Also on the menu are mud-bath sample packages, couples massages, detox therapies and hydrotherapy baths. Mount View is truly a day-spa delight, with the hotel an extra bonus.
Calistoga is a haven of relaxation, and these top day spas are sure to delight, relax and rejuvenate.
